Welcome to the Lexington Field and Garden Club Web Site. We are a dedicated group of women and men who share a common interest and love of gardening. Our interests take many forms, from vegetable gardening, to traffic island maintenance, to floral design and all garden-related things in between. We are residents of Lexington (Massachusetts) and more than 14 other surrounding towns. Everyone is welcome to become a member simply by paying annual dues.

“Our Growing Years” By Marge O’Keefe and Kris Burton

The skit, open to all members, consists of a lighthearted history of the first 75 years of our club. Did you know that in 1875, Ulysses S. Grant, then President of the United States of America, visited Lexington? He came to help commemorate the Battle of Lexington in 1775. The residents called a meeting to clean up the Battle Green and the Depot Area. Out of this group came our Field and Garden Club.

The meeting will be held at the National Heritage Museum, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington.

  • Coffee at 9:30 a.m.
  • Business Meeting at 10 a.m.
  • Program from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
  • 12:30 PM Annual Luncheon "The Mad Hatter's Luncheon"

The program is free and there is ample free parking at the museum.

Note that if Lexington schools are closed, the meeting is cancelled. Please check http://lps.lexingtonma.org/snow/ for school closing information.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 -- Annual Plant Sale

Lexington Field & Garden Club’s annual Plant Sale on May 19 at the National Heritage Museum will offer well-priced annuals and expert advice on colorful containers for your patios, porches and walkways. The Plant Sale will be held rain or shine from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on the grounds of the Museum at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Marrett Road in Lexington, where there is ample free parking.

In addition to the wide variety of perennials from Club members’ own gardens, we will be offering an array of annuals, tomato plants and herbs from local nurseries. “All our plants are from local sources, so you can be sure they are well-suited to our unpredictable weather,” says Jessie Foster, Plant Sale Chair and longtime member.

House plants, gently-used garden tools, Club aprons and t-shirts will also be sold, with a “first come first served” sale of Atlas garden gloves for only $5.00 per pair. “Those will go fast,” Ms. Foster acknowledged.

True to the Club’s motto, “Over 130 Years of Making Lexington More Beautiful,” all proceeds from this sale are used to purchase trees and flora to beautify the town’s traffic islands, Emery Park, Cary Library and other town projects. Each year, the Club also presents a $1000 scholarship to outstanding students of the Minuteman Regional High School’s Landscape Management program.
