Meeting Program 2006-2007
- Sept. 13: "Preparing Your Garden for Winter", with Paul Rogers
- The guest speaker is the well-known horticulturist, Paul Rogers. His topic
will be "Preparing a Love Garden for Winter". The talk and slide show will
provide guidance for shutting down your past 6-month work of love for our long
New England winter.
- Paul is a longtime host of a WTAG radio gardening talk show and author of
numerous gardening articles. He is past president of the Massachusetts
Horticultural Society and is the Historical horticulturist at Old Sturbridge
Village.
- Oct. 11: "A Year in the Life of a Honey Bee Colony and its Keeper",
with Birgit De Weerd
- Evening meeting, starting with coffee at 7 p.m.
- Nov. 8: "Fall Celebrations and Family Festivities", with Elaine
Parisi
- Jan. 10: "Travels with Kathy Yates--East Coast Landscapes",
with Harriet Hathaway
- This program will be a presentation of slides, taken by Harriet Hathaway
and John Kent, of our Garden Club's trips to New York, Washington,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina and the Hudson Valley, focusing on many of the beautiful gardens along the eastern part of the United States.
- Feb. 14: "Wedding Celebrations", with Betty Call
- "Betty" is an LIFE National Council Flower Show Judge and has won several flower show awards such as the Marie Parks Creativity Award at the New England Flower Show and the Topsfield Fair Interpretation Award and Theme awards. Recently she won the Award of Distinction at the Newport Flower Show and Best of Day in the New England Flower Show.
- She has been a member of International Design Symposia and currently the Creative Flower Arrangers of America.
- She worked as a florist for over 5 years and now operates her own floral design studio, "The Floral Touch" in Stow, where she specializes in home and corporate parties, and customized weddings.
- She taught for over 12 years a Floral Shop course at Minuteman and other adult courses for many years.
- She has been president of her Stow club twice and as past Central North District Director twice too. You've seen her name as Chairman several times, for the flower show at Tower Hill Botanic Garden or on State show committe
- Mar. 14: "The Joy of Herbs", with Rita Wollmering
- Rita is the founder of Her FarMacy, which is a 10 acre certified organic
farm and nursery growing and selling over 800 varieties of herb, heirloom
vegetable and antique flower plants.
- Her presentation will cover growing, harvesting and preserving herbs.
Also, she will have simple and creative ways to use herbs year round in the
home.
- Rita has traveled to places such as Sri Lanka, the Philippines and
Australia, studying, teaching, and volunteering in many of these places.
- Rita has a BA in International Economics, has served in the Peace
Corps, is a Master Gardener and had graduated from the Essex Country
Bee Keeping School.
- Apr. 11: "Master Gardener Volunteer and Junior Master Garden
Programs", with Holly Perry (Massachusetts Horticultural
Society Speaker's Bureau)
- May 9: "How Well Do You Know Lexington's Conservation Lands",
with Karen Mullins (Annual Meeting)
